CSI Certification of Safety Requirements

For companies that have invested time, resources and money in the safety of their products, the certification of the relevant requirements is the essential step to give the right visibility to their brand. CSI certifies the safety of food packaging and materials in contact with food.

Food Packaging Certification and MOCA

The integrated approach between food chain and packaging chain it is crucial. As it is for the food sector, also in the packaging one there is a series of standards aimed to manage the food safety.

These standard applications must be seen by the makers as a tool to guarantee that the products that reach the market are complaint but also as a tool for the food industries to qualify their packaging suppliers.

Voluntary Certification CSICERT FOOD CONTACT (UNI 10192 and D.M. 21/03/1973)

The scope of this voluntary certification is to evaluate the conformity of the packaging on the following main aspects:

composition suitability
suitability in terms of overall and specific migration
organolectic suitability.

The certification is recognizable thanks to the CSICERT marking on the packaging itself.

Packaging for the Transport of Dangerous Goods - Testing and Approval

For many years now, international regulations have been developed for the transport of dangerous goods, i.e. substances or products that can cause even serious damage during handling and handling.

Starting from the hazard class, the International Regulations have identified different rules and practices for their handling for different types of transport.

Every person involved in the transfer of dangerous goods must comply with precise obligations set out in the UN Regulations, which establish (in short):

the classification of dangerous goods, substances and mixtures;
the packaging conditions of the goods, the characteristics of the packaging and containers;
the procedures and tests for the approval of packaging for the transport of dangerous goods;
the construction of vehicles and tanks;
requirements for the transport vehicle, including travel documents.

CSI, availing itself of the acknowledgements by the Italian Ministry of Transport, is the Technical Testing and Approval Body for each type of packaging and for all modes of transport.

It is also recognised as Technical Service for inspections and tests on packaging for the transport of dangerous goods by the Luxembourg Ministry of Transport.

Certification of Candles for Indoor Use

Candles are always made in new shapes, new colours and new scents; and today more and more frequent are the questions about the content of emissions due to combustion and a correct and risk-free use.

This certification is aimed at candles for indoor use and assesses compliance with the European standards UNI EN 15426 - UNI EN 15493 and UNI EN 15494 with particular attention to aspects related to safety in use.

The characteristics that are measured are:

soot index,
fire safety (specifically: stability, combustion, flame height),
safety labelling (consumer information on safe use).

Examination of the application and documentation sent by the Company, listed in the "Special rules" specific to the product to be certified. Any deficiencies and significant deviations from the requirements, found at this stage, will be communicated so that the appropriate changes can be introduced before the assessment visit is carried out. Upon request, CSI will appoint an inspector to visit the organisation to verify the conformity of the product, process or service. If the results of the visit include non-conformities or observations, a corrective action plan will be required to meet the requirements for the issue of the product certificate. After all the non-conformities that may have emerged from the assessment visit have been passed, and after the positive outcome of the laboratory tests, certification will be granted. The issue of the certificate will be followed by surveillance visits to verify that compliance is being maintained. The frequency of surveillance visits and laboratory tests, if any, is fixed by the special rules applicable. The certification shall have the validity defined in the specific special rules, on expiry the contract shall be deemed to be tacitly renewed unless terminated by one of the two contracting parties 4 (four) months before the expiry date.
