Compliance with Timber (EUTR)

Regulation EU 995/2010

"The added value of European companies"

Timber Regulation (EUTR) is the name by which the EU Regulation 995/2010 is commonly called, the tool with which the European Union intends to prevent the illegal wood trade in member countries. The declared objective of the Regulation, which also entered into force in Italy on March 3, 2013, is to make Europe the first world market totally free from timber from forest management and illegal logging; not only applies to wood, but also to its derivatives such as pulp and paper, with the exception of bamboo products (and, by extension, non-woody seasonal plants), recycled products and paper printed.

Inspections for the purposes of the Timber Regulation

In order to better control the effective legality of the Forestry Management Wood Paper supply chain, the Timber Regulation introduces the obligation for companies to implement Due Diligence practices that require sector operators (who first places the product on the EU market) to apply specific risk analysis and management procedures, in order to minimize the probability of importing and marketing products of illegal origin and, at the same time, capable of providing information to ensure the traceability of the product made in wood and its derivatives.

The Due Diligence system must be applied by the Operator himself, including through specific technical support or help from a Control Body.

ICILA, a CSI brand, was recognized as a Control Body by the European Commission on 30 January 2015.

Regulation (EU) no. 995/2010, the delegated regulation (EU) n. 363/2012 of the Commission and the Implementing Regulation (EU) no. 607/2012 of the Commission constitute the legal basis to be applied.
